Gown Guide: Styles for the Modern Bride

The bridal gown sets the tone for the entire wedding and the runway showed some brilliant designs and silhouettes this year. There are options for every bride with a variety of choices regarding the train length, sleeve length, waistlines and fabrics. “The trends for 2017 are so gorgeous,” said Ashley DeMutiis, Regional Manager for The White Magnolia Bridal Collection. “Sleeves came back in last year, but it appears they are here to stay. We saw tons of sheer sleeves with lace or crystal detailing, and even some flowing bohemian style sleeves started walking the runways.”

The 2017 Atelier Pronovias collection is full of floral inspired gowns, perfect for spring weddings. Delicate appliques and unique laces accent gowns of every shape and design.

According to The White Magnolia Bridal Collection, another big trend is lots of sparkle. “Whether it be subtle or bold, glitter is at the top of many brides’ dress must-have lists this year,” said DeMutiis. Two-piece separates with crop tops and long flowing skirts are shown in multiple designer lines and a second dress is continuing to be extremely popular, so the brides can be comfortable and dance the night away at the reception.

Designer Claire Pettibone’s Couture 2017 collection is inspired by nature and embodies vintage romance with a bohemian free spirit. “Two words we are hearing a lot right now are unique and romance,” said Megan Bubalo, owner of Malindy Elene Couture for the Bride. “Girls want something that stands out with an extra detail for the complete look. Brides are loving the unique heavier lace pattern mixed with the long trains, that add the romantic feel to any gown.”

The garden, vineyard, rustic and vintage inspired weddings that have become so ubiquitous, showcase many of the Claire Pettibone’s creations. The gentle use of color, couture details, European laces and graceful embroideries, flutter and flow to make a woman look and feel like a goddess.

“Another trend is the sheer details that have been appearing in many of our gowns,” said DeMutiis. “Cutouts overlaid with lace or other details are a classy way to show a little skin and feel sexy on your wedding day, without going too over the top. We are so excited for all the gowns coming soon to The White Magnolia and to see these trends come to life on our brides.”        TBW
